Description
VAG – 450 is anti viral drug which is transformed in the body to the active form of the drug called ganciclovir. Ganciclovir is an anti-viral drug, which staves off the disease in people who have received organ or bone marrow transplants, which is called cytomegalovirus. CMV is a disease which can cause several infections in the body. Among all infections, eye infection is also caused by this disease. CMV is a virus that gives cold sores and is concerned with herpes virus. The eye infection is known as CMV retinitis which can result in blindness. VAG – 450 does not let the infection spread to other parts of the body. The growth of the CMV virus is slowed down by taking this medicine.
VAG – 450 is an antiviral drug which helps in treating people with AIDS having CMV retinitis. It reduces the risk of blindness and helps in controlling CMV retinitis.
It is not meant to cure CMV disease. Patients should get their eyes checked by a doctor on regular basis.
This medication should be taken with food by mouth as per the recommendation of the doctor. Generally, it is to be taken once or twice a day. Tablets are to be swallowed whole by the patients and not be broken or crushed. Medicine should not come in contact with the skin and eyes. In case it does, the area must be immediately washed with soap and water.
Hands must be washed well before taking this medicine. The dosage is based on the body size of an individual.
