Sevom has an active ingredient sevelamer carbonate, a polymeric amine that binds phosphate and is meant for oral administration. If you have chronic kidney disease (CKD) and are on dialysis, your doctor may prescribe a phosphate binder called Sevom (sevelamer carbonate) to help remove the extra phosphorus from your body. Unlike other phosphate binders, Sevom does not contain calcium or metal, which can stay in your body. It is also not absorbed; therefore, it does not accumulate in your body. Sevom effectively lowers serum phosphorus in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients on dialysis.
