Description
DARNESP 40 (Darbepoetin Alfa) is a re-engineered erythropoietin. It’s used to treat patients struggling with anemia (low red blood cell count), especially those patients who are having a long and serious chronic kidney failure. Also, patients are attending chemotherapy sessions for various kinds of cancers (except blood cells cancer and bone marrow cancer). It potentially helps in reducing the constant requirement of blood transfusions.

Darbepoetin alfa is the first long acting ESA with
- Extended dosing intervals and thus has an advantage over epoetins alfa & beta
- Preferred over epoetins/biosimilar epoetins for patients requiring less-frequent administration of ESAs
- Maintains target hemoglobin levels(10-12g/dl) with low dosing frequency(once weekly or biweekly)
- Darbepoetin alfa has similar dose requirement by both the SC & IV routes unlike EPO where dose by SC route was 22% lesser than that by the IV route
- Darbepoetin alfa administered once every 2 weeks or every month improves convenience & saves costs with no compromise in its efficacy while maintaining the target hemoglobin range in patients
Once weekly or biweekly
It provides motivating signals to bone marrow for producing more red blood cells. This works similar to erythropoietin, the natural substance created by our body to prevent anemia.
