Description
For treatment of hyperuricemia in patients with gout, “Febs” is recommended. Gout flares may occur after initiation of “Febs” due to changing serum uric acid levels resulting in mobilization of urate from tissue deposits. Flare prophylaxis with a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) or colchicine is recommended upon initiation of ‘Febs’. Prophylactic therapy may be beneficial for upto six months. If a gout flare occurs during ‘Febs’ treatment, ‘Febs’ need not be discontinued. The gout flare should be managed concurrently, as appropriate for the individual patient.
- Febs is indicated for the chronic management of hyperuricemia in patients with gout.
Febuxostat is used to treat long-term gout because of high uric acid levels in the body.
It is chiefly advised only for patients with intolerance of allopurinol.The medication is for oral use and is directed to be taken by mouth.
